Disability History Month Celebration 2019

On the 5th December Bradford and District Disabled People’s Forum held a celebration of Disability History Month. The event was held at the Bradford Hotel and was enjoyed by over 80 disabled people.

The meeting started with an inspirational poem from Rachel Snowden of People First Keighley and Craven. After watching a film about Bradford’s City of Culture bid we divided into workshops to express what was great (and not so great!) about Bradford. While we had lunch we were entertained by the Makaton Choir from St Matthew’s C of E Primary School who were fabulous! In the afternoon there was a presentation of the Sovereign Healthcare Awards when the contribution of many members of the disabled community were recognised. We then watched a video from Real Safeguarding Lives about some real life experiences of disabled people. The event was a great opportunity for disabled people and organisations to share experiences and celebrate their contribution to society.

Thank you to all the organisations and individuals who helped make the event a great success.
